FC Barcelona Responds: Real Madrid Submits Extensive "Evidence" in Negreira Case
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has confirmed receiving correspondence from Real Madrid as part of the ongoing investigation into the so-called Negreira case.
The Spanish record holders submitted "an extensive amount of documents related to the ongoing investigation of FC Barcelona in the Negreira case." UEFA stated, "The UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors have also received these latest documents, which they will examine as part of their ongoing review of the case."
Real Madrid announced its continued cooperation with UEFA. The club stated, "The complaint filed by our club contains extensive documentation and evidence concerning extremely serious incidents that directly affect the integrity of the competition and confidence in the refereeing system."
Negreira Case: FC Barcelona Reacts to Real Madrid's Submission
Barcelona, in its own statement, emphasized that this is not a new proceeding but the existing one, underway since 2023. Barcelona commented, "It is up to the investigators to decide what measures they deem appropriate concerning these documents, if any. To date, they have neither made new requests to FC Barcelona nor forwarded Real Madrid's complaint to the club. Should this happen, the club will respond accordingly, as has been the practice."
The Negreira case centers on payments made by FC Barcelona, totaling up to seven million euros over several years, to companies associated with Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, a former vice-president of the Spanish referees' committee. Spanish judicial authorities are investigating whether these payments were intended to influence sporting outcomes. Barcelona denies any wrongdoing.
